WHAT IS KAYA YOGA?

Kaya Yoga is a holistic system for health and well-being that lays emphasis on the intake of air, consumption of water and a balanced diet in addition to the practice of the very best few postures of asana, praanaayama, bandha, mudra and internal cleansing. The choice of this narrow range of techniques is deliberate, and is designed to effectively serve the time poor of the Twenty-first century. Kaya Yoga does not advocate the mastery of the entire range of yoga and praanaayama techniques, nor does it preclude a practitioner from learning them, information on which could be sourced from a number of authoritative books on the subject.

The concept of moderation, comparable to the doctrine of the Middle Path, taught by the greatest master, the Buddha, is the fundamental principle of Kaya Yoga. Determination to lead a happy, healthy and long life; a balanced diet, discipline, and faith, are four essential pre-requisites for the practice of Kaya Yoga.

Kaya Yoga website hosts a book by the Executive Director Dr Nachiketa Das, entitled Kaya Yoga: Road to happiness, health and longevity (ISBN:9780980322309), a text of some 30,000 words. The book is a comprehensive treatise on Kaya Yoga. The website also provides the profile of the directors.

The colours used in the Kaya Yoga website are symbolic and have special significance. The background colour of cerulean blue represents the sky, the father and eternal protector of us all on this earth. The golden colour of the letters or font, represents the sun, the symbol of optimism, hope, vitality, and fundamental source of all energy on earth. The colour of brown represents the mother Earth, who despite all our misadventures at denudation and degradation of the environment, tolerates and holds us in her bosom. Black, the colour of fonts of the text, symbolises seriousness, determination, discipline and devotion. White, the background of the pages of the book, and the texts, symbolises peace, and active pursuance of tranquillity through Kaya Yoga. The colour of green, used as borders, symbolises life, and the constant praise of life through the practice of Kaya Yoga.
