DEDICATION

I dedicate this book, written to spread the simple message of health and well-being through the practice of Kaya Yoga, to the memories of my grandfather Mr Alekh Prasad Das (1902 – 2000), who with infinite patience and affection, taught me the fundamentals of this holistic system.

ORISON

Give me the strength to serve You;
Through my services to the suffering humanity.
A humble servant,

ND.

‘Mo jeevana pachhe narke padithaau,
Jagata uddhaara pau;
Mahaabaahu,
Jagata uddhaara pau.’

Even if my life wastes in hell,
I wish the whole world well,
And I pray for their salvation as well,
Oh Lord!
I wish the whole world well.

(Bhima Bhoi, an Oriya poet of the Nineteenth century. Translation, ND.)

INVOCATIONS

‘Sarbe janaah sukhino bhabantu,
Sarbe santu niraamayaah,
Sarbe bhadraani pashyantu,
Maa kaschit dukha bhaaaga bhabet.’

May there be happiness for us all,
May good health be granted to all,
May there be right vision in all,
May no one suffer any pain at all.

(An age old Sanskrit verse often recited as a prayer. Translation, ND.)

‘Sharira aadyam,
Khalu dharma saadhanam.’

First comes the care for health,
Then only can one,
perform duties and amass wealth.

(An age old Sanskrit verse emphasising the pre-eminence of health.)

(Translation, ND.)

‘Greatest wealth is health.’
(Roman poet, Virgil (Publius Vergilius Maro),70 – 19 B.C.)

‘Prevention is better than cure.’
(My two most favourite proverbs that have bitten the dust in the world of the Twenty-first century.)
